Genre

What is a genre?
A genre is a form of style that helps to categorise certain types of film, art, literature, & other forms of entertainment.
In regards to the film industry, there is a large array of genres & sub-genres a film can fall into.
Here is a list of such genres:
•Action&Adventure
•Animation
•Biopics
•Bollywood
•Comedy
•Crime
•Documentary
•Horror
•Romance
•Fantasy
•Thriller
•Drama
•Musical
•Sci-fi
•Short Films
•Western
•Family
•Period&Historical
•Sport
There are many more genres that a film can fall into, including sub-genres such as Rom-coms & crime thrillers, but what exactly determines what genre a film falls into?
There are many different factors which help to determine this, one of which is the films setting. For example, if a film us set in the Wild West, then it's more than likely that it's a Western, & if a film is set in space or in a 'fantasy' land, it's probably a sci-fi or fantasy film. Other key factors that help to determine what genre a film belongs to are the plot, characters & mood/tone of the film. For example, a horror will most likely have a much darker tone than a rom-com.
